Nondestructive Testing (NDT) Technician

This position reports to the Senior Maintenance Engineer, the NDT Technician is responsible for the quality maintenance of the vibration and non destructive testing programs to maximize equipment availability and reliability for mine production and plant process. The NDT Technician will liaise directly with the Mechanical Engineer regarding the co-ordination of the interim repairs or incident calls and the co-ordination of equipment requiring certification or recertification.

The successful candidate will have completed the NDT Technician program and have experience with engineering software/hardware, strong MS Windows and MS Office, and preferably have a mining background.

The successful candidate must have strong computer skills and a minimum of 5 year’s experience as a Level II Shear Wave UT Technician, preferably obtaining petrochemical or power generation experience.

Individuals with verifiable Phased Array, TOFD, or AUT experience is preferred, but not required, and recognized PAUT or TOFD qualifications are a definite asset.

THE JOB
The successful candidates will work within a team of detailed design specialists on innovative projects involving the application of pressure oxidation and high pressure leaching technology. The successful candidates will be responsible for all aspects of material and weld inspection including welding procedure approval as it applies to ASME Pressure Vessel and B31.3 piping manufacture using carbon steel, nickel alloys, titanium and duplex stainless steels.

THE CANDIDATE
This position requires that the applicant will be able to obtain Welding Inspection certification to CSA W178.2 Level 1 (ASME & B31.3) along with a working knowledge of the ASME and ANSI Codes, API, TEMA and ASTM standards. As this is a junior level position, appropriate training will be provided.

The successful candidates must have a Welding Technology Diploma or equivalent welding experience. They must be self-starters with strong communications skills, able and willing to work with a minimum of supervision, and strive for continuous learning and improvement.

The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
-Responsible for scheduling and coordinating the NDE work, including the contractors that provide support for inspectors (Aluma and Reppsco)
-As-build existing inspection sketches (redlined and standardized based on an established isometric drawing standard) and filed draft completely new sketches for lines affected/installed during the shutdowns, maintenance work, etc.
-Verifying the QA packages after S/D and/or maintenance work and update the Inspection sketches and RMSIM History section
-Verify process flow, instrumentation, existing TML locations, line numbers, specification breaks and tie-in location
-Perform the scaffold and insulation removal survey and update the tracking charts. This includes marking (flagging) the inspection locations in field
-The shifts are 4 x 10 hours per week. Overtime only when necessary and has to be pre-approved by Syncrude

The following skills, experience and qualifications are required:
-A graduate of the Materials Engineering Technologist Program
-Well versed in the comprehension of P&ID’s
-Display an understanding of isometric drawings and symbol recognition
-Able to produce accurate and visually acceptable field sketches
-Work in accordance with the Acuren Quality Management System, technical procedures and written work instructions
-Strong computer skills with proficiency in using Microsoft Office applications
-Excellent organizational, written and verbal communication skills
-Ability to multi-task and perform under pressure
-Ability to maintain positive working relations with client and co-workers
