Magnetic Particle Level 3
PREREQUISITE: Registrants must have successfully completed a Level 2 Magnetic Particle course
in accordance with CGSB or SNT-TC-1A.
TRAINING OBJECTIVES: To present the necessary information as a foundation on which to build
a successful management career in magnetic particle inspection with the following
responsibilities of a Level 3 technician noted:
- The establishment of the correct techniques to ensure proper inspection of the part under inspection
- Interpreting specifications and codes, designating the particular test methods and techniques to be used, and interpreting the results
- The interpretation of test results and the evaluation of specimens in accordance with applicable acceptance standards
- The initiation and assignment of magnetic particle inspection projects
- Exercising responsibility for the instruction and supervision of personnel in the correct and safe use of magnetic particle equipment
- Exercising responsibility for the interpretation and implementation of all pertinent regulations concerning operation safety
- Knowledge of theory and operation of equipment
- Recommendations for the purchase of new equipment
- General familiarity with other commonly used nondestructive testing methods
APPLICABLE STANDARDS: This program meets the requirements of CAN/CGSB-48.9712, ISO 9712 and SNT-TC-1A.
The training material presented is not intended as a "guide to passing the Regulatory Examinations".
Other reference publications and the sample questions in CGSB and SNT-TC-1A will be recommended as
supplementary reading.
DEFINITION OF LEVEL 3 PERSONNEL (as per CGSB): Level 3 personnel are defined as fully
qualified personnel who are able to assume full responsibility for a magnetic particle testing
facility and staff.
